Product Description

During Queen Victoria's reign, tea became a symbol of Britain's greatest period of expansion and stability. Every home owned a teapot, even if it was a basic "Brown Betty". Tea was no longer a refined upper class beverage, but the basis of a whole meal. While Charleston dancers and many Victorian glamours have disappeared from the scene, the humble "Brown Betty" has remained a firm favorite. Its origins go back to the to the end of the 17th century and to the birth of the ceramic teapot. In 1700 a small unglazed teapot made of red clay from the Bradwell Woods area of Stoke on Trent was a luxury item costing 12 shillings. Our Brown Betty teapots are still made from the Terracotta as used by the Elder Brothers in 1695. their method of making was 'jollying' but in later years this became slip casting giving a smooth finish and even thickness. Rocking glaze complies with US FDA and California proposition 65. Succeeding generations of Englishmen have proved that the Brown Betty makes the best pot of tea in the world. The shape of the pot causes the tea leaves to be gently swirled around as the boiling water is added thus producing an exquisite infusion. The red terracotta clay with its Rockingham glaze coddles the brew and gives the perfect cup of tea. Hand wash only.

Product Description

A four cup cobalt blue teapot in the style of a Brown Betty teapot in the traditional English style. The Cobalt Betty Teapot is a new twist on the classic Brown Betty Teapot. Based on the original Brown Betty teapot design and specifications, this English teapot is manufactured in England to specifications dating back to the 17th Century. These are traditional teapots still made England from red terracotta clay. This teapot dates back to the end of the 17th Century and became very popular when tea became a symbol of Britain's greatest period of expansion and stability. Almost every home had a teapot, since tea was no longer considered an upper class beverage. The Brown Betty teapot was a basic teapot that was affordable for most people during this time. This teapot was also believed to make the best tasting pot of tea because of the type of clay that was used and the shape of the pot. The shape of the pot causes the tea leaves to be gently swirled around as the boiling water is added to produce a wonderful infusion. Rockingham glaze gives the Brown Betty teapot the deep, dark brown color that has made them famous and easily recognizable. The glaze also hides any tea stains from the tea oils.

A Nostalgic Rustic Tea with a touch of elegance!

This post is certainly no exception. I also have a certain love for tea and anything related. I was contemplating what post I wanted to do next and I happened to be walking out to the mailbox. On that route I spied my old broken down wagon next to the just turning Sedum flowers. Hmmm (I thought) looks like that would be a good location to show the Bavarian teapot and dishes in a rustic way. As with most of the posts that I do, this one is no exception. Most everything I have has a deep meaning to me. This china set was one I collected as an engaged young person for my "hope chest. " My dear mother helped me obtain several of the pieces. I got most of the pieces from shopping in a couple of our local grocery stores. As I recall the IGA and Kroger stores had the china. I believe you had to buy so many groceries and then you were able to purchase the China. It is Haviland Bavarian china. It is so dainty with sweet little blue flowers and silver around the edges of the lids and handles. One of my favorite coffee cake recipes comes from a favorite Christmas book. I will post the recipe in another post. It is rich to say the least but tastes so good with a good cup of tea. So glad you have stopped to take a peek at some of the things that I have a passion for. Family and family heritage traditions are very important to me. I love to decorate with vintage and family heirlooms. I also love anything tea related. I love the easy cottage and Farmhouse Cottage look in decorating. My heart and its art I trust are reflected in the pictures I take and the posts I create. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend I want to create a beautiful, restful, artful and welcome home for all of those who enter. Source: Quaker Hill Farm
