Hong Kong Island in 24 hours!

Only have 24 hours in Hong Kong Island. I’ve compiled all the things you can do in 24 hours on Hong Kong Island:) After all, Hong Kong Island is small, compact and has a great transportation system. On Hong Kong Island Residential neighbourhoods stand juxtapose to skyscrapers home to multi-national corporations. 1 – Flag Raising Ceremony @ GRAND BAUHINIA SQUARE Located on the shores of Victoria Harbour and directly in front of the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. This square is named after the Bauhinia, the flower featured in Hong Kong’s flag and coat-of-arms. In the square, there is a 6-metre tall bauhinia sculpture that was gifted to the Hong Kong people by the Chinese Central Government to mark the handover of the territory from British to Chinese rule. Nearest MTR station: Wan Chai (exit A3 ). Directions: Walk along O’brien Road towards Johnston Road. Then, cross Johnston Road and turn right, then left into Tai Yuen Street. Walk along Tai Yuen Street and after crossing Cross Street, you’ll find yourself on Queen’s Road East. Then, cross to the other side of Queen’s Road West. Start your walk in a westward direction. 4 – HONG KONG PARK. Named after former Hong Kong governor, Sir Edward Youde, this aviary is a delightful installation in Hong Kong Park. Home to dozens of different bird species, this aviary is a huge draw for many of nature lovers and bird watchers. Visitors walk along a wooden bridge perched some 10 metres above the ground. At such heights, where the tree branches are at eye-level, it’s not uncommon to see birds chirping just a few feet away. Nearest MTR station: Admiralty (Exit C1). Directions: Follow the sings up the escalator to Hong Kong Park. The nearest tram stop to the Lower Terminus is Murray Road (33B). Follow the signs that lead to the Peak Tram lower terminus, the park is located directly across the street from the lower terminus. 5 – VICTORIA PEAK It is a huge boat that houses 2 restaurants. A sampan (small boat) is the only way to get to this restaurant. As it is located on the other side of Hong Kong Island at Aberdeen, no MTR lines serve the area. 7 – Exploring Sheung Wan Sheung Wan is Hong Kong’s Wholesale District. From incense shops and dried seafood to Chinese herbs and cheap trinkets, Sheung Wan has them all. The best way to explore Sheung Wan is on foot. Though Sheung Wan is compact, walking along and navigating its winding uphill streets can be challenging. Furthermore, many sights here are simply tucked in a corner and require an observant eagle-eye to spot it. Sutherland & Ko Shing St. Continue walking down south on Hollywood Road and you will come across Man Mo Temple. This small temple is amongst the rank of Hong Kong’s Oldest Temple. Visitors can also offer incense offering with the free josticks provided. Even if you don’t believe in the Taoist faith, the temple shouldn’t be avoided as it offers a glimpse to Hong Kong’s spiritual side. Cross Hollywood Street from Man Mo Temple and you’ll see a flight of stairs (Ladder Street). Walk down Ladder Street and you’ll reach Upper Lascar Row , also known as Cat Street. Cat Street houses numerous stalls selling antiques and jade stone as souvenirs. Also on sale are Chinese communist paraphernalia, including propaganda posters, figurines of Mao and Chairman Mao’s little red-book. Morrison St. Walk down Ladder Street and turn left at Queen’s Road Central. Continue walking along Queen’s Road Central and you’ll reach Morrison Street. Morrison St. is home to birds’ nest and ginseng root shops. Both birds’ nest and ginseng are believed to have great medicinal properties in Oriental culture. In fact, some of the birds’ nest and ginseng sold here are priced at over USD100 for a few dozen grams. Western Market End your urban-trek here at Western Market. Source: Teen Gets Lost

Kyōto - Nakagyō: Nishiki Ichiba - Aritsugu
Aritsugu (有次), famous for its hand-crafted knives, was founded by Aritsugu Fujiwara, a master swordsmith and supplier for the Imperial House in 1560. The current proprietor, Shinichiro Terakubo, took over for his father in 1956 when he was 17 years old. The main store was moved to Nishiki Market in 1981 from Sakaimachi Street, where the shop was located for almost 400 years. Nishiki Ichiba, or Nishiki Market (錦市場), literally "brocade market", stretches six blocks and runs 390-meters from Termachi-dōri to Takakura-dōri, just north of Shijo-dōri. Both sides of the narrow, 5-meter wide road are lined with 126 shops or stalls, known as shinese (老舗), selling various fresh and processed foods and novelties including many Kyoto specialties such as pickles, Japanese sweets, dried food, sushi, and fresh seafood and vegetables. Known as Kyoto-no-Daidokoro (錦市場商店街), literally “Kyoto’s Kitchen”, Nishi Market has a history of several centuries, and many stores have been operated...

Wat Mahathat amulet market
Wat Mahathat amulet market
This is the wholesale market, on the edge of the river; a wonderful shadowy place full of amulet stalls, shops selling Buddha statues, and one shop selling a range of Chinese teapots. Early morning, about 930 - the retail market outside doing a roaring trade, but the wholesale market still quiet, one man lighting incense in front of a spirit house, a couple of stallholders making their tea.
