M&S in hot water after Facebook post criticising one-bag-teapot policy - Daily ... - Daily Mail

' M&S in hot water after Facebook rant criticising its one-bag-per-teapot policy goes viral Marie Byrne wrote her mother, 78, and father, 80, requested an extra teabag Staff refused but suggested they buy another bag as it was company policy Post... Ms Byrne's post read: 'My elderly parents ordered tea in your blancharstown [sic] branch today my mother is 78 my dad 80. They found the tea to be very weak and asked for another tea bag. 'They were told they must BUY a second pot, they asked for a supervisor who confirmed they must pay. SHAME ON YOU FOR SUCH disgusting customer service and treatment of the elderly. 'As regular customers of your stores be assured that my family, friends, and business associates will NOT be frequenting your stores again. Two hours later an M&S representative, Chris posted an apology, but reiterated that it was cafe policy. They wrote: 'Hi Marie. This is one of our policies in our cafes, however we expect our staff to be flexible where possible. 'I'm really sorry you're unhappy with the service your parents received and please be assured your comments and feedback will be passed on to the Café Manager. Thanks, Chris. However, Facebook users were not happy, and were quick to criticise the high street department store's response, with more than 1,400 comments so far on the post. The first reply from Ms Byrne said: 'Thank you for your reply. I await your cafe managers [sic] response with interest, as I am sure the general public will. A deluge of negative comments soon followed. Marie Connolly posted: 'Omg shame on them your poor parents all old people like strong tea marks and Spencer it's only a tea bag they ask for shame on you. Another user Martha O Connell Hartnett said that she would not frequent the chain's cafe again. Sylviao Oreilly wrote: 'This is the most ridiculous policy I have ever heard of EVER. About an extra tea bag. 'It makes you wonder if there [sic] that mean about cutting costs on a tea bag how bad are they on their other products overall. I'll not shop in m an s [sic] ever again after reading this and will share out here in West meath. Nicola Corrigan Hayden expressed disbelief at the incident, making a suggestion on the reply thread. 'Seriously have an open box available so if someone like a proper cup of tea instead of warm watery milk the option is there. M&S shame on you. Martha O'Connell Harnett opined: 'Absolutely disgraceful M&S will not be visiting your cafes after reading this. Change your policies and teach your staff digression [sic]. M&S would will have lost a lot of customers from this review. When contacted for comment, a spokesman for M&S told FEMAIL: 'We are aware of the complaint you have referenced and we have been in touch with the customer directly. The initial post opened up the floodgates with users commenting on various other issues. Jan Collins Gunning posted: 'My elderly mother fell backwards down the escalator in M&S Exeter when the handrail failed. They offered her a free cup of tea if she was willing to queue in a packed restaurant. A representative of the store replied with: 'We're really concerned to hear about this Jan. And Pauline Mulvey wrote: 'That type of treatment does not surprise me at all i got stuck in the lift last yr in their store and ph [sic] them to speak with the manager im still waiting on him to return my call customer service is not one of their... This book concerns the Beijing Hutong and changing perceptions of space, of social relations and of self, as processes of urban redevelopment remove Hutong dwellers from their traditional homes to new high-rise apartments. It addresses questions of how space is humanly built and transformed, classified and differentiated, and most importantly how space is perceived and experienced. This study elaborates and expands Lefebvre’s “trialectic” of space on a theoretical level. The ethnography presented is a conversation with Tim Ingold’s argument about “empty space”. This research employs the ethnographic technique of participant-observation to secure a finely textured, detailed and micro-social account of local experience. Then, these micro-social insights are contextualized within...

Been playing in the pantry again today, way too cold outside. From my paternal grandmother by way of my Mom. The hallmark says Titian Ware Hand Painted. The Perugia. Patent 70566. Royal Ivory England. Est 1657 Despite all its fancy hallmarks and names (Perugia was where Titian painted in Italy) it looks like you can buy one of these for about 10 bucks on eBay. Definitely crockery, not fine china. Whew, don't have to move it back from the edge of the shelf. :) Have a matching teapot and creamer, and they are definitely fun to use when I my church circle gathers for tea and talk. Probably made around 1900.

Seated man looking at a recling woman, detail of the side A of the Portland Vase. Cameo-glass, probably made in Italy ca. 5-25 AD
The most famous cameo-glass vessel from antiquity The scenes on the Portland Vase have been interpreted many times with a historical or a mythological slant. It is enough to say that the subject is clearly one of love and marriage with a mythological theme. The ketos (sea-snake) places it in a marine setting. It may have been made as a wedding gift. It is not known exactly where and when the vase was found. It is recorded as being seen in 1601 when it was in the collection of Cardinal del Monte in Italy. After the cardinal's death it was bought by the Barberini family where it remained for 150 years. Eventually, in 1778, it was purchased by Sir William Hamilton, British Ambassador at the Court of Naples. He brought it to England and sold it to Margaret, dowager Duchess of Portland, less than two years later, in 1784. In 1786 it came into the hands of her son, the third Duke of Portland, and it was he who lent it to Josiah Wedgwood, who made it famous through various copies. It was...
